The New Gold Standard

Introducing the LEED Gold Certified Sitar Emporio in Iselin, NJ, our most recently completed project.

The idea behind this building was to meld the timeless style of turn of the century architecture with modern energy efficiency and sustainability through LEED certification.

This is the second LEED Gold Certified building in Woodbridge Township and 1 of only 113 LEED Gold Certified buildings in New Jersey.

What is LEED and LEED Gold Certification?

LEED is Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design and was developed by the US Green Building Council. LEED Certification promotes environmental responsibility and resource efficiency.

There are 4 LEED Certification Levels:

Certified         (40-49 pts)
Silver              (50-59 pts)
Gold                (60-79 pts)
Platinum        (80+ pts)

This certification is rated by a points scale designed by the US Green Building Council and must meet certain criteria to achieve each certification level.

Some of the stand out features that helped us achieve LEED Gold is the Vegetative or “Green” Roof and the installation of Solar Shades.

As you can see in the photos above the Green Roof is just that. This roof helps treat grey water, provides natural insulation to the building, lowers urban air temperatures, and promotes wildlife habitats.

The Solar Shades, shown below, provide vertical shade on the east and west sides of the building. Designed to give the impression of a traditional shutter, their placement helps lower solar gain, or the increase of heat due to the suns rays. This allows for a more energy efficient cooling system and therefore a more sustainable building.
